In Missoula we had a successful transmission service. The mechanic told me everything looked fine, so I think I got the service soon enough to avoid any damage. We also got an oil change at the same time, so I'm good on that for the next few thousand miles. We left town as soon as we could because we knew we had a long drive ahead of us. The drive was mostly uneventful except for another gasoline emergency. When we were at a quarter of a tank I decided I'd get gas at the next station, but that turned out to be quite a while, even though we were on Interstate 90. The gas level warning light even came on. Uh oh! But soon enough there was a station and we filled up. From now on I won't cut it so close; it would be tragic to run out of gas in the middle of the desert. At the gas station we saw a truck for servicing portable toilets, with two strapped to the back, and I got a picture with an intrigued Ashleigh. I parked with the big boy trucks.
We turned off of I90 onto road 191, which took us all the way into the park, in fact all the way to the campground. We rolled past beautiful meadows and streams with wildlife and livestock. We gassed up in the town of West Yellowstone, entered the park on our America The Beautiful pass, went to our campground, and set up camp. It was a heck of a long day and we were tired. We had enhanced pea soup and toast for dinner, and I washed it down with a little Glenlivet.
