Tomorrow morning I will talk to Ross Hyden Jeep about my 2005 Liberty. I previously stated that the camshaft pulley was loose, but I would like to say now that, of course, camshafts don't have a pulley, they have a timing chain (or belt). As a previous automotive student I should have realized that in an instant. I revise my diagnosis: the water pump pulley is loose. That would also explain why the vehicle was overheating, although my understanding is that water pumps are lubricated by coolant, but it sure seemed to me that oil was getting spun around the engine compartment. Maybe there is some oil in the mechanism somewhere.
To me, that is good news because water pumps are probably easier to obtain, easier to fix, and cheaper, than camshafts. Please join me in crossing your fingers.
